There are alot of big bands, musicians, band leaders and educators that have fully supported and my efforts here. Many of these big bands and musicians have CDs out and many play regular gigs in their areas. Please support these big bands and visit their sites.

Big Bands

Etowah Jazz Society

The Etowah Jazz Society is a non profit Big Band based in Cartersville, Georgia that has been in existence since 2002. We are a group of jazz enthusiasts that are dedicated to educating the high school music students as well as the surrounding community about jazz. We take the monies that we earn by playing various gigs around the area and put on a Jazzfest every spring with master classes and world class clinicians for the high schools in north Georgia. We have a Dixieland group (the New Orleans Express) as well as a Jazz Combo (the EJS Allstars) and play jazz from strait up to smooth jazz, from dixieland to broadway.

Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra

Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra was formed in Jan 02, in Denver, CO. We are a full size (18 piece) big band featuring both female and male vocalists. Besides a regular gig at the famous Dazzle Restaurant and Lounge, MJO has performed at the annual Glen Miller SwingFest (Ft. Morgan), Hudson Gardens, Denver Grand Prix and many local festivals and events.

Monroe Big Band

This band works the South Eastern Michigan and Northwest Ohio areas. We’ve been in existence over 15 years and play weddings, anniversaries, corporate events, etc.

Northern Light Jazz Orchestra

We are located in Bellingham, WA. U.S.A. We have been in existence for a couple of years, playing concerts, dances and a couple of festivals already, due to the fact we have excellent musicians in the band! Our forte is swing music in the style of Count Basie, Les Brown, Duke Ellington, as with many other big name bands.

Rob Parton Jazz Tech Big Band

Rob has kept this band together for the better part of 15 years now and there are no signs of slowing down. Rob just recorded the 6th CD featuring a bunch of terrific Chicago writers and players, (including Tom Garling). The band is chocked full of the finest players in the Chicago area. I’m biased, but this big band is one of the best in the country in my opinion. Two Different Days is available on

Stardusters Music

Since 1993 the Stardusters Music has been delighting audiences in Indiana. Featuring the Stardusters Jazz Orchestra, a 17 piece big band that is capable of performing concerts, wedding receptions, corporate events, and festivals. The Stardusters Swing Band is an 8 piece band with the big band sound. Both groups feature a male and female vocalist. This group plays for dances and weddings. Stardusters Music can provide live entertainment for any event in any venue. No venue too. to large or too small.

Bob Martin’s Take Note Big Bandis a very active performance group that is based out of the northeast Atlanta area and works extensively throughout the region. It is a full 19 piece big band including five trumpets, five saxes, four trombones along with bass, guitar, piano and drums in the rhythm section. The band also features outstanding female vocalist Diane Bowman, an exciting performer with a perfect voice for the big band style.

The Tony Greenwood Big Band

We are located in Manchester, UK. We have been around for over 12 years, performing at concerts, dances, corporate events, weddings and other celebrations. The band plays mostly swing music paying tribute to Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Ted Heath etc. The band also features excellent vocalist John Jenkinson, he has the perfect voice for this style of music. John’s favourite singers includeMatt Monro,Bobby Darin,Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin & Bing Crosby.

The York Jazz Ensemble

Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Formed in 2000, the 9 piece band specializes in swing, and standards playing jazz venues, festivals, parties and fundraisers

Malvern Big Band (UK)

Malvern is a medium-sized town in Worcestershire, UK, with a lot of music going on, including a fine big band. MBB plays some standards, but has an emphasis on the contemporary, including in its repertoire charts by Jim Martin, Don Ellis, Frank Mantooth and Kris Berg. The band is directed from lead alto by Mike Halliday and plays in theatres in and around Worcestershire as well as for private functions.

We are an active 17 piece band in the Los Angeles area, Most of the band members are scientists working at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for NASA.

Valley Swing Shift

We’re an 18-piece traditional big band that features tunes in the decades around WWII, as well as standard big band arrangements. We’ve been together since 1977, and play all venues from weddings, night club shows, summer park concerts, and private parties.

The Nomo Funk Orchestra

13-piece funk marching band featuring an awesome line-up of young Melbourne musicians with an energetic sound that the streets of Melbourne have never heard the likes of before. The group comprises current and alumni students of Blackburn High School, forming in 2005 to attempt the seemingly impossible… to establish a funk marching band. Nomo uniquely combines tight ensemble playing with energetic moves and grooves.

Truth in Jazz Orchestra

Truth in Jazz is a big band formed and sponsored by The Truth newspaper in Elkhart, Indiana. Being the Band Instrument Capital of the World there are many former professional in the area that worked in the factories of Conn, Selmer, Ludwig, etc. Those pros and other members who have played in university bands make up our personnel. The band plays many gigs in the area including the Elkhart Jazz Festival where they are the only two local bands that perform. The instrumentation is based on the one that Count Basie developed.

The University of Portsmouth Big Band, UK We are a university big band from Portsmouth, England. We play about 10 gigs a year in the local area half of which may be public. Every two years we make a trip to mainland Europe (Germany, Spain, Czech and Poland).

Rock River Jazz Band

The Rock River Jazz Band is a 14-18 piece band composed of professional adults and college students. We play Big Band, Swing, 50-60’s Rock, Pop, Waltzes, Polkas, and a little bit of Country. We play everyting from Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Stevie Wonder to Kenny Rogers and the Beach Boys.

The eBigBand is a project that involve musicians all over the Europe (so far) to record an album of Big Band music.

We are a traditional swing dance band playing for dance clubs and wedding receptions in San Antonio and central Texas.

Based in South Yorkshire, England, and able to travel nationwide, the Take 2 Big Band is a 16-piece big band available for bookings for both private and public functions, and can also provide anything from between a four to a seven piece band as an alternative if required.

The band perform Big Band concerts, Dance Band work and can also do small ensemble work, catering for Corporate Events, Theme nights, Proms in the park, and other events and occasions.

Costs vary depending on the size of band required, the location of the event, and the duration of the performance, but we are very reasonable.

‘Get Your Kicks With ROUTE 66. The Big Band Sound From The Swing Era.’ More than 20 years of providing great music! This great, swinging band’s repertoire consists of the classic and authentic big band hits by such greats as Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Count Basie among others. ‘Route 66′ has a very large and loyal following earned from their appearances at many corporate, community and private functions all over the Seattle and Puget Sound area.

Crowds are really going for our band when we play in the corporate event, wedding, and dinner music scene. Our group also performs clinics and concerts in educational settings to help cheer on the next generation of jazz musicians!

Preville Big Band is Montreal’s POP big band, making weddings and other events come alive for over 20 years. Get your party going with Preville’s 2 amazing singers and full live dance band. Lappeenranta Big Band is an active semi-pro big band acting mainly in Lappeenranta and nearby regions, near East border of Finland, Europe. The band is performing and developing its program constantly.

bOp! Classic

bOp! Classic is one of the only full stage band ensembles in the Boston area. Founded in 2008 by Artistic Director, David Healey, the band primarily consists of alumni from Boston College, and plays a variety of swing standards from the 40’s and 50’s at events from Boston to Cape Cod. The full line-up includes brass, winds, rhythm and a mix of male and femal vocalists. The band is a not-for-profit entity and donates proceeds from their concerts to a scholarship fund at Boston College aiming to help and encourage young musicians.

Martyr Isenberg Bigband

The MIBB is a modern Big Band comprised of musicians mostly coming out of the New School (University) Scene. We perform original compositions and creative de-rangements with serious aspirations and dance sensibilities.

Nicolás Ocampo

Sax player, Composer, Arranger & Teacher. Live and work in Córdoba, Argentina playing concerts, composing music for theatre, dance and Tv.

We are an essex based big band, playing charts from the 1930s to present day.

Commodores Big Band

The Commodores Big Band is a favorite at dances and public performances in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia. Be sure to join them at the Butchart Gardens Band Shell on selected evenings in the summer. (classic salsa band) (Latin Rock) (my personal website for arrangements, lessons, etc.)

Fairbanks Community Band – A  non-profit 501(c)3 corporation supporting a Big Band and a Concert Band. The Big Band is 18 pieces (but no guitar) and plays a mix of music, mostly danceable. Our clients are generally non-profit local organizations having meetings, dances, parties, and graduations (for local schools too small to have a band). We charge for non-public events, but our fees are low. All public concerts are free. – A 501C3 non-profit organization

Trade Winds Dance Band – We are a big band in our composition.  We have 4 saxes, 3 trumpets, 2 t-bones, 4 piece rhythm section plus 2 singers.  We do a lot of big band music, but additionally perform a lot of more contemporary music as the videos and .mp3s.  When people ask me about the music we play, we often say it is, “Top 40 music from the last 70 years”.

Jan Garber Band – The Jan Garber Band under the direction of Howard Schneider – We are a university big band from Portsmouth, England.  We play about 10 gigs a year in the local area half of which may be public.  Every two years we make a trip to mainland Europe (Germany, Spain, Czech and Poland)

With over 200 years cumulative experience, the Moonlight Swing Orchestra is comprised of 17 musicians and 1 or 2 vocalists who all share the same love of performing the music of Big Band Swing from the 30’s and 40’s. Based out of Monroe WA, they have performed throughout Western Washington for over 15 years. – Big band from Germany

Mainland Big band, Christchurch, New Zealand
In 1994, Green Mountain Swing became an offshoot of what was then an established Vermont city band called the Waterbury Community Band (WBC).  Through focused recruitment efforts, a weekly practice regimen and a cooperative style of musical development training and sharing among all its members, GMS Big Band now boasts 18 members.  The group primarily performs at local events around Central Vermont including town park concerts, dinner dances, festivals and craft fairs, assisted living facilities, school reunion functions, Farmer’s Markets and weddings.

Mark Colby

Mark has performed with Gerry Mulligan, Jaco Pastorius, Frank Sinatra, Maynard Ferguson, Bob James, Charlie Haden and Mose Allison. He is a first call studio musician, and has played on over 2,000 commercials in the competitive Chicago market. He has been a jazz faculty member at DePaul University since 1983, as well as Elmhurst College. Currently, he is performing as a guest soloist and clinician/ adjudicator at high schools and colleges throughout the United States representing the Selmer Company.

Tim Coffman

Tim Coffman is one of the most active trombonist and teachers in the Chicago area.

Mr. Coffman is currently on the Jazz Studies faculty at DePaul University where he teaches Jazz Trombone, Jazz Improvisation, Jazz History, Low Brass Techniques and coaches Jazz Combos. Tim has recently recorded a CD entitled “Crossroads”.

Bill Fulton
