Don “The Voice” LaFontaine Dies at 68
After listening to Don LaFontaine on television and movies for the last 25 years, it was not until just a few years ago that I knew who the famous voice actually belonged to.
Sadly, movie trailers will never be the same. Don LaFontaine died yesterday at the age of 68.
I would venture to say that Don’s voice would make the Guiness Book of World Records for the most listened to voice ever. Billions of people all over the world have heard his voice time and time again – but probably didn’t even realize it. He recorded over 5000 movie trailers and tens of thousands of commercials over the last 25 years.
Don was super successful and made millions simply talking all day long. A limousine picked him up at his front door in the morning, and off he would go to speak into a microphone at studios all over Los Angeles. Don was paid as much as $3000-4000 for a trailer that might take him only 15 minutes to complete. And he did it a dozen times per day.
If you don’t know who Don LaFontaine was, this video is a good introduction into the voice over legend.
