Hello Jim Martin:

I downloaded "Orilla del Mar" from your website and finally convinced the band I'm in -- The "One More Time Band" of San Juan Island, Washington -- to give it a try. Now that we've read through it at two different rehearsals, they've decided they LIKE it!

In fact, one of our trumpet players, who is the island's high school band director, would like to obtain a concert band or pep band version -- with a conductor's score, if possible -- that she can pass out to her band to try.

Is such a thing available?

Thanks.

Hi James, I just reread that post now and I guess I was a little pissed off at the time. I'm better now however.

I'm sure there isn't a one of us who has photocopied something that we shouldn't have at some point in our lives. The point I was trying to make was the blatantness of what was going on, esp with Sammy's charts. One of the reasons nothing on pdfjazzmusic.com is over $20 is that

I realize that musicians simply don't have tons of money laying around to purchase charts at the $40 and up level. And I don't begrudge any composer for asking for those prices either. But I've gotten many emails from band directors thanking me for such reasonably priced charts - and many of these band directors pay for charts for their bands from their own pockets. (I guess that says something for our educational system as well.) At any rate, there are no hard feelings with the guy from Ebay - I posted acknowledgement of his apology in the next post.

Dear Jim.

Right ON! I do detect a bit of bitterness in your tone, but rightfully so. I too am an arranger/composer. Sometimes I feel the same way a friend of mine used to quip "people are no damned good." Dishonesty has become indemic in our culture as witnessed to by the constant scandals in government and business. In surveys students express no regret or conpunction about cheating. What a world we live in! At least there are some honest folks still around.
