Well, we lost another great one today: Freddie Hubbard died this morning after complications from a heart attack he suffered around Thanksgiving. Hubbard died at Sherman Oaks Hospital, said his manager, fellow trumpeter David Weiss of the New Jazz Composers Octet. He had been hospitalized since suffering the heart attack a day before Thanksgiving.

I was fortunate enough to hear Freddie live in the 70’s and he played great as always. Freddie was one of a kind, and his playing spanned the many facets of jazz from the 50’s throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80s. Everyone was influenced by Freddie, and not just trumpet players. Sad to see him pass so young.

Here is a terrific video of Freddie in concert with some old friends….thanks for the great music Freddie!
