When I started PDFjazzmusic.com a few years ago there were very few (if any) composers selling big band charts as PDF downloads. That is why before I even started the site I tested the concept on Ebay. I was not even sure if anyone would want to print out 80 some pages, then tape them together, and finally pass out to their big band.
I had a feeling though that if the price were right, charts would sell in this format. And based on my Ebay tests, I was right. If you have ever wondered why all prices on the site are $20 or less, it is because the results of numerous Ebay tests confirmed that people were basically willing to pay that amount for charts in PDF format. $19.95 is a price point that many infomercials use as well to sell products. Must be a psychological thing I guess.
Nowadays PDF big band charts are all over the internet. The concept has become much more widely used and accepted.
PDFjazzmusic.com does not sell (yet) very many easy (level 2-3) big band charts, but I did find a site that does - and a few are available as free downloads too.
The site is cyberwindsmusic.com. The site features not just jazz, but also band material and misc. educational materials. It also features a few different composers, and you can listen to the music before purchasing. Here is the big band download page. If you have a junior level band, check out this site. I’m sure you’ll find some good stuff there.
