Combo Charts

The combo charts or small big band charts are written for: tpt, alto, tenor, bone, pn/bs/drms.

Many of these charts are original tunes written over changes to standards. These are perfect for the young improviser who can read new charts over changes that are somewhat familiar.

Having four horns rather than 3 allows for more flexibility in voicings and a bigger and fuller sound. They are fun to play and fun to blow over too.

For a bigger set of horns, but still shy of a full big band, be sure to check out the small big band charts here also.

Autumn Returns

Autumn Returns is a latin original tune based on the changes to Autumn Leaves in the key of Bb. Changes are nice to play solos over, especially in the latin feel of “2″.

Don’t Take the B Train

Composed and Arranged by Jim Martin

This is a fun “riff” tune based on the changes to…you guessed it…”Take the ‘A’ Train”. Set in an uptempo swing style, it is a good chart to learn and blow over the changes to this Ellington classic.

Jim Martin : Guest_1887: that's an interesting idea, and to be honest, I never really thought of it. I guess I never considered a need for that type of thing, but it makes sense to have a book of individual parts to practice with. I'll see what I can do to put that together. thanks for the idea!
Guest_1887 : Have you ever considered "breaking" out individual intsrument parts and offering a down loadable book? I'm a drummer with no access to a band playing charts and with all your exellent tips on software to record and slow tempos I think this would be a great way to practice. I you decide to do this I promise to be your first customer!
