Dave Cushman
Dave started his music career at an early age, playing his first piano concert at the age of six and continued playing piano throughout elementary school. During his Jr. High school days he took guitar lesson and also played drums, playing in many bands. It was during this time he composed and recorded his first song.
Dave played in the award winning Reseda High School jazz band where he started his trumpet career.
Over the years of playing trumpet he started doing horn arrangements and music copying. Dave switched his focus from being a performer to working with the notes to be printed on the page.
His clients range from Jeffrey Osborne, Tony Danza, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Holland America Cruise line to jingles for 7-up, Jack In The Box, Home Depot and many more.
The 3 horn compositions for sale here have been performed and recorded by The San Gabriel Seven in Los Angeles.

And Daisy Makes FiveAnd Daisy Makes Five is a pretty melody that is played individually by each of the horns and the guitar before the tune ends. As the melody stays the same, the groove underneath changes. Starting with the trombone playing over a mellow Bossa beat. The horns play give and go with the melody leading up to the bridge. The alto sax takes the lead on the bridge. Next the guitar plays the melody in the background as the piano ad-libs. It gets funky as the Alto starts soloing. The next section features the trumpet with harmon playing the rubato melody with the guitar. Once again, it gets funky under the soprano sax solo before the band revs up for the ending. Sax doubles on Alto and Soprano. Trumpet doubles on flugelhorn. Trumpet to high E Price – $14.95 |
Chop CheckChop Check started from the closing lick of the show when I played with the Temptations. The trombone player and I called the phrase “chop check” since it was at the end of the show and after a long vamp. A high energy funk tune, ala Tower of Power, it starts out with a funky guitar intro leading into the horn melody. A half-time feel for the bridge before going back to the head. Tenor sax solos over a short rubato section before the sax sets the tempo back into the groove and sax solo. (Can be opened up). Guitar solos before the DS. Change of key and out, obviously ending with a chop check. Price – $14.95 |
